Otto Ackermann

Otto Ackermann ( born October 5, 1909 in Bucharest, † March 9, 1960 in Wabern near Bern ) was a Romanian-born Swiss conductor.

Ackermann studied at the Royal Academy in Bucharest, then with George Szell and Walther Gmeindl at the Berlin Academy of Music. After working as Kapellmeister in Dusseldorf ( with Walter Bruno Iltz ), Brno, Bern, Zurich, Lucerne and Vienna ( Volksoper ), he worked from 1954 as a music director to the Municipal Theater Cologne, from 1958 as Music Director at the Stadttheater Zurich.

Ackermann, who also appeared as a guest conductor in many European cities, particularly known as a conductor of operettas made ​​(of which numerous record for EMI Electrola - witness ) and Mozart operas.

Ackermann was buried in the local cemetery of Grindelwald.
