Otto, Duke of Austria

Otto IV, the Merry ( Cheerful, Latin Jucundus ) and the Bold ( Audax ) called (* July 23, 1301 in Vienna, † February 17, 1339 in Neuberg ) was Duke of Austria, Styria and Carinthia.

Life

Otto came from the family of the Hapsburgs. He was the youngest son of the Roman-German King Albrecht I and his wife Elisabeth of Gorizia - Tyrol the House of Meinhardiner.

His brothers were Kaše Rudolf, King of Bohemia, the German anti-king Frederick the Fair, the dukes of Austria Leopold the Glorwürdige and Albert the Wise and Henry the meek ​​(not the reigning Duke of Austria ).

As the youngest son Otto was initially excluded from the rule. In 1325 he married Elisabeth of Bavaria ( 1306-1334 ), daughter of Stephen I, Duke of Lower Bavaria and Judith, Duchess of Schweidnitz. 1329 the administration of the Habsburg possessions, he was then transferred on the Upper Rhine ( western Austria ). From 1330 Otto ruled with his brother Albrecht, the Duchy of Austria. 1331 he was appointed to the Bavarian imperial vicar of Ludwig.
