Otto Friedrich August Meinardus

Otto Friedrich August Meinardus ( born September 29, 1925 in Hamburg, † September 18, 2005 ) was a German theologian, Koptologe and archaeologist.

Life

Otto Meinardus attended the grammar school 'recommendation on the 1945 matriculation examination he sailed from Hamburg. 1945 to 1947 he studied theology at the Theological Seminary of Hamburg and at the Faculty of Arts in Hamburg, 1947-1949 at Richmond College in Surrey ( England), and then in Boston, where he received his doctorate in 1955. He was from 1952 to 1956 pastor of the Second Congregational Church in Peabody (Massachusetts ).

1956-1968 remained Otto Meinardus in Cairo, where he studied Eastern Church Art and Early Christian Archaeology. Since 1957 he was a member of the Société d' Archéologie, 1959, he was the Institute of Coptic Studies appointed Fellow. From 1957 to 1968 he also served as pastor at the Maadi Community Church in Cairo. In 1964 he became a member of the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo, he also worked as a professor of theology at the American University.

1968 to 1975 he lived in Athens, where he was next to his teaching at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens also served as pastor at St. Andrew American Church.

After his return to Germany in 1975 he was pastor of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland in Koblenz and Stolberg. Later he returned to Hamburg.
