Otto I of Olomouc

Otto I the Beautiful ( Czech Ota I. Olomouc, Oto I. Pěkný or Oto I. Sličný, † June 9, 1087 ) was a Moravian prince.

Life

Otto was the youngest son of Břetislavova I and his wife Judith. He was married to Euphemia of Hungary ( Euphemia Uherská, † April 2, 1111 ), daughter of the Hungarian king Bela I.. In German-speaking countries it is often referred to as Otto of Moravia, Olomouc or Otto of Otto I called the Fair.

After his father's death ( 1055 ) and his brother Spytihněv II ( 1061 ) took Otto, with the consent of his brother Vratislav dominion over the part of the Principality of Olomouc. After the acquisition, he defied his brothers Conrad I and Jaromír, bishop of Prague, the centralist aspirations of the brother Vratislav.

Otto is the ancestor of the Olomouc branch of Přemyslids. His sons are Svatopluk II ( Svatopluk Olomouc, † September 21, 1109 ) and Otto II ( Ota II Olomouc, † February 18, 1126 ). Břetislavova son and daughter Boleslava died at a young age.

Otto was the founder of the monastery Hradisch.
