Otto Michael Ludwig Leichtenstern

Otto Michael Ludwig Leichtenstern ( born October 14, 1845 in Ingolstadt, † February 23, 1900 in Cologne ) was a German internist.

From 1869 to 1871 he was an assistant with Karl von Pfeufer and Joseph of dragon. In 1871 he was temporary successor of Felix von Niemeyer ( 1820-1871 ) as director of the medical clinic in Tübingen. Here he was - also 1871 - habilitation. In 1875 he became an associate professor.

In 1879, he moved to Cologne to the municipal hospital in Augusta Hospital.

After Leichtenstern some medical eponyms are named. The Easy Star Sign is an indirect clinical signs of meningitis. The Leichtenstern syndrome is a combination of pernicious anemia and tabes dorsalis. The Strümpell Leichtenstern encephalitis is an acute encephalitis with necrosis, hemorrhage and demyelination.

In Cologne carries a street opposite the University Hospital 's name.
