Otto Renner

Otto Renner ( born April 25, 1883 in Neu-Ulm, † July 8th, 1960 in Munich) was a German botanist and university professor. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " hit".

Life

Renner studied from 1901 to 1906 the natural sciences and especially botany at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich, where Karl Ritter von Goebel and Ludwig Radlkofer were influential teachers. From 1903 he was already an assistant to Radlkofer in the Botanical Bavarian State Collection. In 1906 he received a doctorate in phil. From 1907 he was an intern at William Pepper at the University of Leipzig, then curator of the cryptogamic herbarium and assistant of Goebel.

In 1911 he was a lecturer and in 1913 Associate Professor of Plant Physiology and Pharmacognosy at the University of Munich. In 1920 he was appointed as the successor of Ernst Stahl as Professor of Botany at the University of Jena, where he was also Director of the Botanical Institute and the Botanical Gardens. From 1948 to 1953 he was Professor of Botany and Director of the Botanical Institute and the Botanical Gardens of the University of Munich. In 1935 he became a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, in 1949 a full member of the learned association.

Renner undertook research trips to Algeria ( 1914) and to Java ( 1930-1931 ). He undertook versatile genetic, cytogenetic and taxonomic studies in particular to the genus Oenothera, which significantly promoted the understanding of mutations. 1934 Renner wrote the plastids independent hereditary characteristics to.
