Ouagadougou Cathedral

The Cathédrale de l' Immaculée - Conception ( Immaculate Conception Cathedral ) is a cathedral in Ouagadougou, the capital of the West African country of Burkina Faso. It was built on the initiative of the French missionary and bishop Joanny Thévenoud (1878-1949) 1934-1936 and is the episcopal church of the Archdiocese of Ouagadougou.

As building material traditional for the region mudbrick ( Banco ) were selected. The architectural forms are reminiscent of the European Romanesque architecture. The floor plan is a three-aisled basilica without transept. This scheme, however, was only two stories realized, so that the great length and width of the building corresponds to a relatively low height. Together with the unequal height as " canceled" acting towers gives the building the desired impression of the still unfinished.

The church building is located in the city center in the district quarters Saints ( Secteur 1) on the avenue Bassawarga and the avenue de la Cathédrale.
