Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ouagadougou

The Archdiocese of Ouagadougou (Latin: Archidioecesis Uagaduguensis ) is an archbishopric in Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta ) in West Africa. At the same ecclesiastical province includes the suffragan dioceses Koudougou, Manga and Ouahigouya. Seat of the archdiocese is Ouagadougou, the capital of the State of Burkina Faso.

History

Pope Benedict XV. founded on 2 July 1921 the Vicariate Apostolic of Sahara and Sudan out the two curacies Bamako and Ouagadougou. On September 14, 1955, the Vicariate was by Pope Pius XII. elevated to the Archdiocese of Ouagadougou.
