The diocese was Gaoua 30 November 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI. built out of territory of the diocese and the Archdiocese Diébougou Bobo-Dioulasso is a suffragan. First bishop was Modeste Kambou.

The diocese covers the provinces Gaoua Noumbiel and Poni.
