History

The Diocese of Banfora was built on June 27, 1998 Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Cum suo tempore of cessions of territory of the diocese and the Archdiocese of Bobo-Dioulasso Ouagadougou is a suffragan. First bishop was Lucas Kalfa Sanon.

On 5 December 2000 the diocese was the archbishopric Banfora Bobo-Dioulasso is a suffragan.
