Ouara (also Wara ) is a city in the region Wadai ( Ouaddaï ) in Chad.
History
From 1635 to 1870 Ouara was the capital of the Arab- Sudanese empire Wadai, which was lying on the region of today Wadai. Ouara is located 60 km north-east of its present capital Abeche.
Because of a drought the princes left in the 19th century, the city of which a mosque and the palace of Ibn Abdel- Kerim Djame is left today. The bricks of the palace presented an Egyptian architect in the 16th century ago. The palace is surrounded by a wall with 325 meters in diameter and consisted of several buildings, multi-storey residence of the Sultan and apartments for his wives. The mosque is also built of bricks.

Since 2002 Ouara is one of four départements of Wadai region. Ouara has six sub-prefectures: Abeche, Abougoudam, Abdi, Chokoyan, Bourtaïl and Amleyouna.
