Ouaddaï Region

Wadai (French Ouaddaï ) is a region of Chad, corresponding to the former prefecture of the same name. Its capital is Abeche. The region has about 772,000 inhabitants.

Geography

Wadai covers an area of ​​76,240 km ² and is located in the east of the country, on the border with Sudan's Darfur region. The region is located mainly in the Sahel.

Subdivision

Wadai is divided into four departments ( départements):

The Department and Sila Djourf Al Ahmar were spun off in 2008 and the new Sila region.

Population

Main demographic groups in Wadai are Maba ( also referred to as Wadai ), Zaghawa and Chadian Arabs.
