Outi Borgenström-Anjala

Outi Päivikki Borgenström (married Borgenström - Anjala; born January 24, 1956 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish orienteer. In 1978 she won the world title with the Finnish relay, 1979, she was single world champion.

Her first world championship medal won Borgenström 1974 in the Danish Viborg. The single game she was behind the Danish Mona Nørgaard and the Swede Kristin Cullmann third parties. 1976 in Scotland, she won the silver medal in the relay. At the Nordic Championships 1977 in Joensuu Borgenström won the individual title. In 1978, Outi Borgenström, Marita Ruoho and Liisa Veijalainen Season World Champions. On the way home World Cup in her hometown of Tampere in 1979 she won the long distance competition. After this success, she was awarded Athlete of the Year in Finland. 1981 in Hungary, she won relay silver again. Also at the Nordic Championships 1980 ( behind Liisa Veijalainen ) and 1982 ( behind Eva Charlotte Tønnesen ) she won the individual silver.

In the summer of 1984 Outi Borgenströms and Ari Anjalas came first child. Ari Anjala was multiple World Cup medalist with the Finnish Orienteering season. Borgenström continued her orienteering career then indeed gone, but could not establish the connection at the top. In 1990 she won but still with the team of Tampere Pyrintö the Tiomila. Her son Topi Anjala is also a member of Orienteering Team.

The Finnish Standard Distance Championships, she won 1976, 1978, 1981 and 1983, the long-distance championship in 1981 and 1983. 1983 she was Finnish champion in night orienteering. During her career, she ran for the clubs Hyvinkään Rasti, Kangasalan Kisa, Tampere Pyrintö and Ikaalisten Nouseva Voima.
