Överkalix

Överkalix is a place ( tätort ) in the northern Swedish province of Norrbotten County and the historic province of Norrbotten. The main town of the homonymous municipality is situated approximately 70 km north- west of Haparanda on the European road 10

The name originated Överkalix 1644 after the division of the parish Kalix. Kalix can be traced back to an older Kalis, the flow from the Sami name Kalas - ätno (cold flow ) is derived.

Överkalix is a trade and service town. Here the Överkalix market is held annually, attracting many visitors. The town has a 330 -meter-high radio mast for distribution of television programs and radio programs is in the VHF range.
