The Owen Stanley Range is the south-eastern part of the Bismarck Mountains in Papua New Guinea, near the capital of Port Moresby on the island of New Guinea. The highest point is Mount Victoria with 4038 meters.

The mountain is named after Owen Stanley, the mountains are discovered during an expedition from 1846 to 1850 in 1849.

The Kokoda Track has long been the only relatively easy transition over the mountains.

The Breitkopf tree rat is endemic in the rainforests of the Owen Stanley Mountains, where she lives on trees.
