History

Length of the lake formed by the Searles Lake and China Lake is a lake trio. The former freshwater lake was up around 1924 fed by water from the Owens River. The subsequent dehydration was caused by the since 1913 beginning derivation of the water in the Los Angeles Aqueduct for drinking water supply of the metropolitan area of Los Angeles. The dry surface of the lake caused such a large dust in the surrounding region that the Environmental Protection Agency forced in the 1990s that the seabed is as far as watered again that a vegetation cover forms that stops the wind erosion. Since 2001, 5% residual amount of water remaining in the river bed again and sprayed in the field of Owens Lake. Add remaining water also comes from groundwater sources, minor sources or leachate. Meanwhile, the sea is salty, which caused a change in the living conditions. From space you can see large red areas on the area of the lake, which are due to archaea, which specialize in salt environments.
