Owl hole

As Eulenloch or low German Ulenflucht or Ulenlock is defined as the hipped roof in old buildings, but also for pitched roofs, often found opening located below the ridge. This was before the introduction of the chimney flue and both serve as entrance hole for birds such as barn owls (hence the name Eulenloch ) and swallows were welcome as vermin hunting animals in the house.

In Low German Ulenflucht also stands for the dawn, ie the time in which fly the owls.

Uhlenflucht is also the name of a hamlet of the municipality Hohenfelde (Official Horst, Steinburg district ) in Schleswig -Holstein.
