Ozark is a city in the U.S. state of Alabama. In 2000, the city had 15,119 inhabitants. The City is located in Dale County and is the County Seat.

History

The area around Ozark was originally inhabited by Indians from the tribe of Muskogee. The first white man who settled in Ozark and whose name is known, 1822 was John Merrick Sr., a veteran of the American Revolutionary War. In his honor, the city Merricks was named. The name was later changed to wood shop, which was also the name of the city, as this was a post office. 1855 required the inhabitants of the name change in Ozark.
