Paavo Johansson

Pekka Johansson (actually: Paavo Johansson Jaale; born October 21, 1895 in Helsinki, † December 5, 1983 ) was a Finnish javelin thrower, who was successful in the early 1920s. He participated in two Olympic Games and won a bronze medal.

  • At the games in 1920 in Antwerp he threw 63.09 meters in the qualification and was therefore ranks second behind his compatriot Urho Peltonen, who scored 63.50 m. In the final, however, was only the third Finn, Jonni Myyrä nor increase. With the victory width of 65.78 m Myyrä missed his own world record by only 32 cm. Peltonen and Johansson came with their performance in the qualification to the second and third places.
  • Four years later, at the Games in Paris in 1924 it was not so good for Johansson. With 55.10 meters he finished the qualifying in eighth place. For the finals he would have had to take a few feet further, as the sixth and last of the approved launcher while his compatriot Yrjö Ekqvist, came to 56.15 m.
