Baronii Pachypodium is a plant of the genus Pachypodium in the family of the dogbane family ( Apocynaceae ).
Description
Pachypodium baronii is a perennial plant. Her wide- bottle-shaped trunk is 0.5 to 2 m high and has gray-green, strong, emerging branches. The paired -standing spines are broad conical shaped and 6-8 mm long. The leaves are elliptic to oblanceolate in shape. They are 5 to 15 cm long, 4.5 to 6 cm wide and are hairy on the underside. The petioles are short.
The showy flowers are colored bright red and have a white eye in the center on. They are narrow tubular shaped, measuring about 5 cm in diameter and 5.5 cm long.
The small fruits are about 5 cm long and measure 6-8 mm in diameter. They contain pink brown seed, with a diameter of 6-7 mm.
Occurrence
The species is widespread in the north of Madagascar.
