Pachypodium lealii

Pachypodium lealii is a succulent plant of the genus Pachypodium in the family of the dogbane family ( Apocynaceae ).

Description

Pachypodium lealii grows with very different shapes and reaches stature heights of up to 6 meters. The silver- gray trunk is massive and thickened ends in warty shoots. Three spreading mandrels, one of which, the side 2 to 4 inches long. The glossy leaves are distributed along the branches and heaped at the tip. The leaf blade is 1.5 to 10 inches long and 1.2 to 4 centimeters wide. Their edges are slightly wavy.

The white, präsentiertellerförmigen flowers are in small bunches and are 2.5 to 4 inches long. Your wavy on the edge corolla lobes are 1.5 to 2.5 inches long. The fruits reach diameter lengths 7-10 centimeters in diameter by 1 centimeter. The 9 -millimeter seeds contained therein are narrow ovate.

Systematics and distribution

Pachypodium lealii is widespread in Angola, Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The first description was in 1869 by Friedrich Welwitsch. We distinguish the following sub- types:

  • Pachypodium lealii subsp. lealii
  • Pachypodium lealii subsp. saundersii

The subspecies Pachypodium lealii subsp. lealii grows upright and is großwüchsig. Its leaves are finely hairy tomentose on both sides. The subspecies Pachypodium lealii subsp. saundersii grows bushy to prostrate. Its leaves are lealii subsp compared with Pachypodium. lealii less hairy and the flowers a little smaller.
