Pagri

Pagri, Tibetan according to Wylie: phage- ri, Phagri ("swine mountain") (Chinese帕里 镇, Pinyin Pàlǐ Zhen ) is a large village of the district Yadong ( Dromo ) in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. It is an important commercial center of southern Tibet and one of the highest places in the world. The town is located 4300 m at the foot of the Himalayas Chomolhari.

History

In 1774 the Scotsman George Bogle entered the city on the way to Shigatse and Tashi Lunpo on behalf of the East Indian Company.

In Pagri 1957 Thubten Ngödrub, the 14th state oracle of the Dalai Lama, was born.
