Paint Your Wagon (musical)
Paint Your Wagon is a Broadway musical with music by Frederick Loewe. The book and the song lyrics wrote Alan J. Lerner. Produced by Cheryl Crawford had musical on November 12, 1951 its Broadway premiere at the Shubert Theatre. It was directed by Daniel Mann, the show was choreographed by Agnes de Mille. After Loewe and Lerner's previous success Brigadoon the term of Paint Your Wagon was modest with 289 performances. The first performance in London's West End was held at Her Majesty's Theatre on 11 February 1953.
Action
As the crusty old prospector Ben Rumson want to bury a friend, finds his 16- year-old daughter Jennifer in the foxhole gold dust. Immediately claimed Rumson the locality as a slogan around which within two months, the gold mining town of Rumson with 400 inhabitants developed ( Song: I'm On My Way ), but where only a single female person is located, Rumsons daughter Jennifer.
The prospector Jake Whippany saves his money to therefore invite Cherry and her Fandango Girls can ( song: Rumson ), while Jennifer already in place for the increased tension noticed ( song: What's Goin 'On Here). When the nice young prospector Julio Valveras who must live outside the city, because he is Mexican, comes to town to let wash his dirty laundry, he met Jennifer, who agreed to do this job for him ( Song: I Talk to the Trees ). Steve Bulmarck and other settlers now pondering about her lonely nomadic life in the song They Call the Wind Maria.
After two months, will the male population that Ben Rumson finally sent away his daughter Jennifer while he thinks of his dead wife and wishes she could help him ( Song: I Still See Elisa ). When Ben sees that Jennifer love with Julio lingerie dancing ( Song: How Can I Wait), Ben decides to send them to the East. Ben Rumson is unaware that the gold digger Elizabeth Edgar Crocker makes advances and is by no means averse. Rumson thinks jealous because the miners Raymond Janney is in love with her ( he is ). Julio learns now that a lake with gold dust on the ground was found and is considering, then break ( Song: Another Autumn ).
In December, Jennifer returns with "civilized experience " back from the East ( song: All for Him) and learns of her father, Ben, that has remained for his feeling for far too long in one place ( song: (I Was Born Under a ) Wand'rin 'Star ) and wants to move on. The next day already Cherry and her Fandango Girls pack her things, to draw to Goldsee further, Jennifer tell beforehand but still, that Julio is already there. Raymond Janney offers Ben $ 3000 for Elizabeth, but she runs with Edgar Crocker them. And 40 miles south of Rumson gold is found, the whole city is starting to pack their stuff - with the exception of Jennifer - she is waiting for the return of Julio - and Ben Rumson, who noticed at once that the actually his city is.

Filming
The musical was made into a film in 1969, directed by Joshua Logan with a different plot and score, the German rental title is Paint Your Wagon. The film stars Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood.
