Palace of the Counts of Azambuja

The Palácio Valada - Azambuja (also: Palácio dos Condes de Azambuja ) is a former noble palace in the borough Misericordia the Portuguese capital Lisbon.

History

A first erected in the 16th century Palace was destroyed in the earthquake of 1755. On its ruins on the south side of the Largo do Calhariz the present building was built on a U-shaped floor plan. Despite various modifications he retained the typical for a 18th-century palace facade. In the atrium at the entrance, the walls are decorated with azulejos of the 18th century.

As of 1925, there was the seat of the run by Brito Camacho newspaper A Luta, now the Biblioteca Municipal Camões is located. The building of the status of a de Imóvel interest Público was awarded in February 1982.
