Palace Staufeneck

The Staufeneck Castle (also: Stauffenegg, Staufenägg etc.) in the community Piding in the district of Berchtesgaden is situated at the foot of Hochstaufen fortification. Was built the fortress in the 12th century by the Viscount of Staufeneck. In 1307 it passed into the ownership of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, where she served as a nursing dishes in Rupertiwinkel 1365-1805. 1503, the castle under Archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach was completely rebuilt and got its present appearance. During the Napoleonic Wars, the region in 1810 coincided with Salzburg to Bavaria. The castle is privately owned since 1894. In the 20th century it housed a number of years as a museum. After a major renovation, it is inhabited again today.
