Palavas-les-Flots

Palavas- les- Flots ( okzitan.: Palavas ) is a town in the department of Hérault in the Languedoc- Roussillon region in southern France. It has 6050 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011), called " Palavasiens ".

Geography

The town of Palavas- les- Flots is about 10 km south of Montpellier on the Gulf of Lions in the Mediterranean. It is bordered to the north Lattes, Pérols in the northeast, Mauguio in the east, the sea in the south and Villeneuve- lès -Maguelone in the West. Here the river Lez flows into the Mediterranean. In the east-west direction of the Canal du Rhône à Sète runs through the city.

Tourism

The beaches (swimming, tanning in the summer, walk in winter), attract a very large number of tourists that are housed on site ( hotels, apartments, camping) or who live in neighboring communities as well as the campsites in Lattes and Pérols. The 45 meter high water tower Phare de la Mediterranee has been converted into a convention center with revolving restaurant.
