Palazzo Margherita

The Palazzo Margherita is a palace in the Ludovisi district in Rome.

The palace was built in parts of the Villa Ludovisi. Was built the palace 1886-1890 by the Italian architect Gaetano Koch at the then newly established Via Veneto Boncompagni Ludovisi for Rodolfo, the prince of the Principality of Piombino. The maintenance costs were too high for the Prince and he sold the palace to the Italian State. After the assassination of her husband, Umberto I. The Italian Queen Margherita of Italy lived in the palace until her death in 1926. 1931 acquired the U.S. government the palace of Italy. The palace currently is the Embassy of the United States.
