Palexpo

Palexpo ( also marketed as Geneva Palexpo ) is a large trade fair complex in Geneva. It is located on the territory of the municipality Le Grand- Saconnex, near the Geneva airport and the A1 motorway.

Plant

Palexpo consists of seven halls with an area of ​​102,000 m2 and usable outer surfaces of 21,000 m2. Five halls are situated next to each other, separated only with mobile walls, so that they can be used together as a large open plan area of 84,000 m2. The most recently built hall 6 has the particularity to have been built on the A1 motorway. The very oblong hall 7 extends between the highway and airport; it is only separated by a wall from the mobile concert hall Geneva Arena, which has up to 9,500 places.

Among the Halls 1 and 2, there is a convention center with a hall for 2200 seats and seven smaller rooms. Situated next to the hall 1 Villa Sarasin, a mansion from the 19th century, offers exclusive reception rooms and seminar rooms.

Palexpo is served by excellent variety of transport. It is just 500 meters from the terminal building and from Geneva Airport railway station (last stop for all long distance trains that travel from Switzerland to Geneva ), has its own motorway exit and is served by bus lines 5, 28, and Y Transports Publics Genevois.

History

Palexpo is the successor of the old Palais des Expositions in the downtown district Plain Palais. This was built in 1926 for the Geneva Motor Show. After the Second World War there were also other fairs organized, the Salon des arts ménagers and Telecom in 1971.

The construction of the Palexpo began in 1978 and the first four halls with 58,000 sqm were inaugurated on 18 December 1981. Then the Palexpo been extended three times, 1987, Hall 5, 1995 with the Hall 7, 2003 and with the built on the A1 motorway, Hall 6

By June 2008, nearly all buildings owned by the Fondation du Palais des Expositions, the public foundation that already managed the old Palais des Expositions in Plain Palais were. The exception was the last built hall 6, which was owned by the public foundation Fondation pour la halle 6. Since 1957, the old Palais des Expositions and then the Palexpo by the Foundation Orgexpo ( organization d' expositions) was operated.

The two foundations were merged in June 2008, the corporation Palexpo SA, which is majority owned by the Canton of Geneva. Since 1 January 2009, Palexpo SA also assumes Orgexpo of the operation of Palexpo.
