Palpigradi

Eukoenenia spelaea

The Palpenläufer (also button runners ) (Latin Palpigradi ) are an order of the maxillary jaw carrier and also the spiders (Arachnida ). Worldwide there are about 80 species are known to reach body lengths of only two to three millimeters. In Europe, 26 species (with 34 subspecies ) known.

Construction of Palpenläufer

The physique of Palpenläufer reminiscent of the the whip scorpions, since they also ends the abdomen in a multi-member flagellum. It is also striking here is the first run leg pair, which is applied as the scourge of spiders and scorpions scourge to long tactile organs with increased number of leg members. The pedipalps are leg -like and are used as walking legs. The jaws jaws ( chelicerae ) are relatively large and (small springtails ) are used to hold the prey used at the mouth. The Palpenläufer are completely colorless and have no eyes.

Reproduction and Development

About the propagation and development of Palpenläufer is almost nothing known. In some species are very rare males, for this reason it is assumed that the Palpenläufer multiply partially parthenogenetic.

Nomenclature of Palpenläufer

The exact position of Palpenläufer in the system of arachnids is not yet fully understood. The most common version it is within the Apulmonata (lung lots arachnids ) as a sister group to the other members of that group (see Kiefer pawl carrier ) and justifies this especially with the missing cone lungs. An alternative, it represents the scourge spiders, scorpions and spiders scourge as a sister group against on the basis of several small morphological changes.
