Pamela is a female first name, invented in the 16th century by the poet Sir Philip Sidney in his pastoral romance Arcadia. Maybe he used the name from the Greek words pan παν, all very ' and μελι meli, honey ' or pan, whole, everything ' and melas, black' together.

He was made mid 18th century by the epistolary novel Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded by the English writer Samuel Richardson.

The name is widely used in the English language, but also pronounced German, with emphasis on the e, in the German language more popular.
