Panair do Brasil
Panair do Brasil ( founded in 1929 as NYRBA do Brasil ) was a private Brazilian airline, which connected in consultation with Varig, the second major Brazilian airline, Brazil to 1965 with the world. This served Panair from 1946 and European destinations ( including Paris and Frankfurt am Main ), while the Varig was devoted to the American continent. Home airport Panair was Rio de Janeiro -Santos Dumont. In contrast to the Varig Panair used the aircraft models of Douglas, in the 1960s, the Douglas DC- 8, while Varig decided for the competition, the Boeing 707.
On 10 February 1965, the Panair were unexpectedly informed that their was withdrawn immediately from the ruling since the previous military government license over unpaid tax debts. The intercontinental network and those serving DC-8 aircraft were assigned to the Varig. The South American power was transferred to the war years emerged from the Brazilian Lufthansa subsidiary Condor Syndicato Cruzeiro do Sul. The other institutions of the Panair were divided accordingly. Thus ended the story of the Panair as an airline. Around 5,000 employees in the workplace lost.
The approach of the government is also in retrospect, at best, controversial. Often it is seen as illegitimate arbitrariness. Happy to be noted that Panair far had the highest tax liabilities among Brazilian airlines. In 1975, Milton Nascimento and Fernando Brant published the wistful song Saudade Dos Avioes Since Panair ( " longing of the aircraft from Panair " ), which was especially in the version of Elis Regina to be a success. 2007 was marked by the Brazilian director Marco Altenberg in the acclaimed documentary Panair do Brasil by the history of the airline.
Since the closure of Panair to former employees, their relatives and friends who Família Panair each year to 22 October, the anniversary of the society meet, for social communication. Even in 2010, around 200 people were dining together in Clube da Aeronáutica one of Rio de Janeiro.
