Pangandaran

Pangandaran is a bathing and fishing town on the south coast of Java and belongs to the province of West Java. It is mostly visited by Javanese from Bandung or Yogyakarta, but is also a popular destination for international backpackers. The village lies on a peninsula that is bordered on the south by a small National Park.

Pangandaran was severely damaged on 17 July 2006 by a tsunami after an earthquake off the island of Java. The quake had a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale and was centered 180 km off the coast Pangandarans. Up to 3.3 meters high waves rolled towards the coast.
