Panormitanus

Nicolaus de Tudeschis or Panormitanus (* 1386 in Catania, Sicily, † February 24, 1445 in Palermo ) was an Italian theologian and Archbishop of Palermo.

Life

Tudeschi was a Benedictine monk and studied and later taught canon law at Bologna. In 1425 he became abbot of the monastery of Santa Maria di Maniace near Messina, in 1435 Archbishop of Palermo. Tudeschi was the author of some comments to the canon law, but he is also through his role at the Council of Basel known where he defended the conciliar movement against the emphasis on the papal supremacy and the antipope Felix V.. He died of the plague in Palermo.
