Panormos (Greek Πάνορμος ( m. sg. ) ) Is a municipality of the Greek island of Tinos and community. It is composed of the village with 336 inhabitants, the coastal town of Ormos Panormos with 92 inhabitants ( 2011) and several other small settlements.

The village was originally called Pyrgos Panormos ( Πύργος Πανόρμου ) and was recognized under this name in 1912 as a rural community ( kinotita ). The name change took place in 1915 in Panormos, officially with the addition Tinou as a differentiator to other communities of the name. On 1 January 2011 the municipalities of Tinos ' were merged into a single island community, has since formed a township in Panormos.

Location

The district takes Panormos in the northwest of the island an area of ​​33.378 km ² and is part of the traditional territory Exo Meri ( Έξω Μέρη ). History

The area around the monastery Kyra Xeni ( Μονή Κυρά Ξένη ) is one of the earliest settled areas of the island. The economic and artistic significance of Pyrgos and the surrounding villages reached its peak in the 18th and 19th centuries. Shipping and trade flourished, the rich marble deposits were exploited and Panormos was the port for the transport of marble. The first marble sculpture workshops produced numerous anonymous artists created monuments, busts, statues for cities in Greece, the Balkans and Asia Minor. Museums

The museum was founded in 1930 Tiniotischer artist ( Μουσείο Τηνίων Καλλιτεχνών ) is one of the most important museums of young Greek sculptors history.
