Papa Eftim II

Eftim II ( civil Turgut Erenerol, * 1920 in Ankara; † 9 May 1991, Istanbul) was patriarch of the autocephalous Turkish Orthodox Patriarchate, a not recognized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate Greek Orthodox Christian denomination with strong influences from the Turkish nationslistischen ideology. His father, Eftim I., was the founder of this patriarchy.

Turgut Erenerol studied medicine at the Medical Faculty of Istanbul University. And then worked in New York's Montefiore Medical Center as an anesthetist. In 1960 he returned to Turkey. He became patriarch after Papa Eftim I resigned in 1962 for health reasons from his post. Eftim II held the patriarchate ( Papa) from 1962 until his death on May 9, 1991. His successor was his younger brother Eftim III.
