Papaoutai ( Papa t'es où to German: Dad, where are you? ) Is a song by the Belgian singer Stromae. ( Carrée Racine ) The first single from his second album √ published in Belgium on 13 May 2013, and launched straight to number one on the local charts.

Music Video

On 6 June 2013, the music video for Papaoutai was first published on Youtube. The three minutes and 52 seconds long video shows a boy trying to interact with his father. The father, played by Stromae, but remains motionless sitting on a couch and his face and body expression are the a mannequin comparable, while outside other fathers and sons dance together. In the end, the son sits next to his father on the sofa and takes up the same, rigid and lifeless attitude as his father. The video has reached more than 116 million views.

Importance

The song is about Stromaes inner search for his father, who had become a victim of the genocide in Rwanda. Stromae revealed that this followed him up to his music career, but has also inspired him to write many of his songs.
