Paperboys (group)

The Paperboys are a Norwegian hip- hop duo, founded in 2002. It stands at Bonnier Amigo under contract.

Band History

Already in 1989, the two rappers met Jarle Hollerud alias Jimmi Jupiter ( JJ ) and Øyvind Sauvik aka Vincent ( Vinni ) Vagabond in Tanzania. Alternately in Africa and Norway, they worked on the first hip-hop projects, which they called Reject Society and Nasty Boys. Back in Norway beginning of the 90s was the band MindState along with two other members named Steven MC and DJ Sky Juice. Mind State in 1993 was the first time to see during a concert against rights violence on stage, along with bands like Gatas Parliament, Jester and Conspiracy 2 Murda. In the Quart Festival in Kristiansand in 1996, the band appeared as a support of American artists of hip-hop like The Roots and Coolio. A year later, the band broke up.

1999 appeared the name Paperboys first time on a plate. Øyvind Vinni Sauvik rapped as Paperboy on the debut album of the Norwegian hip- hop group Multicyde. In 2000, Vinni and J. J. guaranteed a contract with the Scandinavian record company Bonnier Amigo Music Group and worked closely with the producers Kim Høglund (aka Kakemonsteret aka Kookie ) and Keith Cook. Their debut single Moving Up with Keith Cook and KleenCut came in the fall of 2001 to the rotation list by the Norwegian radio station P3.

Since its founding in the late 1990s, the Paperboys were a decade the leading hip- hop band in Norway with approximately 100,000 albums, three Norwegian Grammys and 12 songs in the VG- lista, the Norwegian charts sold.

The breakthrough was achieved by the rapper in the summer of 2002 with their hit Barcelona in collaboration with Madcon. The single reached gold status. This also excellent with gold debut album No Cure for Life the same year received the Spellemann Award in the category Best Hip Hop and counted short of the 30 best-selling albums in Norway. JJ left after the first album the band and his place was the DJ Ole Aleksander Halstensgård aka Pope Dawg. At the completion of their second album The Great Escape the Norwegian hip- hop producer Tommy Tee and the Swedes of Collén & Webb were involved. Her third album, When Worlds Collide won the 2005 Norwegian Spellemann pinch in the category Hip- Hop / R'n'B. However, the greatest commercial success of the single brought a Lonesome Traveller. This was 4x platinum in Norway.

Since 2009 Sauvik dedicated solo projects.
