Paraire Tomoana

Paraire Henare Tomoana († 1946, also known as Friday ), was a renowned Māoriführer from the Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi of the Hawke's Bay region. He was born in Waipatu or Pakowhai son of Henare Tomoana. The year of his birth is unknown, the obituary in the Daily Telegraph in Napier has said that he died at the age of 78 years (after he had been born in 1868 ), the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography 1874-1875 are as year of birth. Tomoana Te Aute College attended, where he was a member of the local group of the Young Māori Party. He issued the Māori newspaper Toa Takatini and composed several popular songs on Māori: E Pari Ra, Hoera Te Wake Nei and Hoki Hoki. He is also known in the context of a popular song Pokarekare Ana, from 1921, he published a processing from 1917. He was an Anglican lay preacher.

He was a recognized authority on the oral traditions of the Māori and the weather forecast by the methods of Māori at his death. He visited every important meeting of the Māori of the southern North Island for a period of 4-5 decades.
