History

The album Parallel Lines was the third album by the band and the first album, which was produced by the UK hit producer Mike Chapman. It was the most successful album in the band's history, reaching the top spot in the UK album charts. No less than six tracks on the album were released as a single. The most successful was the single of Heart of Glass, which was 1979 to No. 1 on the U.S. and UK singles charts. Also in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the song was the smash hit of the spring of 1979 and reached in all three countries, the first place in the singles charts.

For Parallel Lines singer Deborah Harry had written a text that bears the same title. The text was never set to music, gave the album but his title. The song Heart of Glass was originally only 3:34 long (according Original Album LP label). The disco version of the maxi-single is 5:50 long. Due to the worldwide success of the disco version of the old version has been replaced by the disco version in later editions of the album. This meant that the original album from the autumn of 1978 is very sought after by collectors as a rarity.

2003 chose the American music magazine Rolling Stone, the album on the 140th place of the 500 best albums of all time.

Hanging on the Telephone

Hanging on the Telephone is a cover version of a song of the band The Nerves. The American band The Nerves published the song in 1976 on her only album. For Blondie it was the second single off the album and the song reached the 5th place in the UK Singles Chart. In 2006, the British girl group Girls Aloud on the song and released it on a limited special edition of the album The Sound of Girls Aloud. In the same year, a cover version of the hard rock band Def Leppard released their album Yeah!.

One Way or Another

One Way or Another was released as a single in the U.S. only. As the successor of Heart of Glass the song reached the 24th place on the Billboard charts. In Canada and the U.S., it also received inclusion in the 1981 released album The Best of Blondie. One Way or Another one of the most popular songs of the band and by the U.S. magazine Rolling Stone elected to the 298th place in the list of the 500 best songs of all time.

Picture This

Picture This is considered the first song of the band, which was produced by Mike Chapman. The song was the first single off the album in the UK and reached the twelfth place on the charts. The photographer Mick Rock, published in 2004 a book titled Picture This - The Many Faces of Blondie.

Sunday Girl

Sunday Girl was released as a follow-up single from Heart of Glass in the UK and reached number one in the charts. In Germany the song reached also the successor of Heart of Glass sixth place in the charts. From Sunday Girl Blondie also published a version in French. In the UK, the French version was released as a B- side of the maxi-single of Sunday Girl.

Heart of Glass

Heart of Glass was the biggest hit of the band Blondie. The song reached the first position in the singles charts, including Germany, the UK and the U.S. in many countries. The song was created in 1975 and was incorporated under the title of Blondie Once I Had a Love. In this version of the song was much slower and was played in the blues / reggae sound. Blondie sang the song already at concerts when they recorded it again in 1978 in a rock version. Producer Mike Chapman finally decided a third version of the disco sound record and the song received the title Heart of Glass. In this version, he became an international hit and became the classics of the New Wave.

The first cover of emerged already in 1979. The British instrumental band The Shadows recorded the song for their album String of Hits. This album reached number one in the UK album charts. Nelly Furtado sang the song in a medley on her Loose Concert Tour 2007. There are many other cover versions, including a German with the title " Heart of Glass " from the year 1979 by Marianne Rosenberg.

I'm Gonna Love You Too

I'm Gonna Love You Too is a cover version of a song from the repertoire of Buddy Holly. He first appeared in 1958 on Holly's second album and was also released as a single. Due to the high visibility of the song in the U.S., the producers decided to release this song as the first single in the U.S.. This calculation failed, however, and the single was not in the charts.
