Parapoxvirus

Virus genus Parapoxvirus includes viruses which occur in various mammals. In contrast to the cuboidal shape when members of the genus Orthopoxvirus that parapoxviruses have an ovoid shape, and are about 220 to 300 nm long and 140 to 170 nm wide. The inner structure of the virus, composed of a complex folded membranes and nucleoprotein appears rotated and twisted in a cross shape. The genome of the parapoxviruses is a double-stranded linear DNA having a size of 130 to 150 kb. The various species of the genus show a high genetic diversity and narrow host specificity.

Some virus species can produce by transferring animals diseases in humans, the Orf virus ( milker's nodule ) and possibly the ecthyma contagiosum virus - camel ( camel pox ).
