Parc de Bercy

The Parc de Bercy is a 14 hectare park in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. It is bordered to the north by the Palais Omnisports de Paris -Bercy and the south by the experience center Bercy Village.

History

The 14 -acre park was created between 1993 and 1997 in Bercy, a district in the east of Paris, which, situated on the river Seine, formerly one of the largest wine markets in the world was. After the district more and more neglected, it was decided at the beginning of the 80s to massive transformations. The core is now the new Parc de Bercy. The winners of the international competition, the architects Bernard Huet, Madeleine Ferrand, Jean -Pierre Bernard Leroy Feugas and in collaboration with the landscape architect Ian Le Caisne et Philippe Raguin called their first draft " Jardins de la Memoire " ( Gardens of Remembrance ). Previously, there were at this point namely the wine warehouse of the French monarch, the Parisian aristocracy and the markets of the wine trade. This aspect has been preserved in the park design.

Near the park is the French National Library.

The three parks

The Parc de Bercy consists of three separate areas: the Great Meadows (French: les Grandes Prairies ), the beds ( double les parterres ) and the romantic garden (French: le Jardin romantique ).
