Parcé-sur-Sarthe

Parcé -sur Sarthe is a commune in France in the department of Sarthe with 2109 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). The municipality covers 38.99 km ². Until the French Revolution the place belonged to the province of Anjou, only then he came to the newly formed department of Sarthe.

History

In Gallo -Roman times the place existed. The Latin name was Parceum and designated a village that a certain Patrice, who came from a Roman family in Anjou belonged. Here was a bridge on which the Roman road from Subdunum (Le Mans) by Combaristum (now Combre ) crossed the Sarthe.

A medieval fortress, and almost the whole place was destroyed in 1370 during the Hundred Years' War, when had to withdraw after losing a battle to the west the British. Only the tower of a chapel dedicated to Saint Peter ( Chapelle Saint- Pierre ) from the 11th century stood and still stands today.
