Parke's Castle

Parke's Castle ( Irish Caisleán parks) has a noble residence in County Leitrim. The Englishman Robert Parke built it in the 17th century on the banks of Lough Gill on the regional road 286 on the ruins of the demolished tower house of O'Rourke. He received the pentagonal outer walls and built largely in the East a three-story mansion.

The tower house was demolished because Brian O'Rourke, granted the Spanish captain Francisco de Cuellar, who suffered with the Spanish Armada in 1588 on the coast of Ireland shipwreck shelter. De Cuellar described, returned to Spain, the hospitality of O'Rourke. 1590 heard the Englishman of it and sent forces after Brefni to destroy the tower house. O'Rourke fled to Scotland, but was delivered in 1591 and executed. The externally -fortified -looking building, inside is a mansion. Three of the outer walls, which enclose a dovecote and the stone buildings inside the courtyard seem to be original.

The property forms the eastern side of the mound, which was originally surrounded by a moat of which are still visible parts. At the western end is a sweat house. End of the 20th century, the property has been restored by the Office of Public Works.
