Parrsboro

Parrsboro is a town in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada. The city is known for the Ship 's Company Theatre and the Fundy Geological Museum.

History

The region was occupied at the beginning of Mi'kmaq Indians. The first European settlers were Acadians who were expelled in 1755 by the British, because they swore no allegiance to the British king. So the area of farmers from the New England states was settled. During the American Revolution, the Loyalists were added as new settlers.

The city was named in 1784 after John Parr, Governor of Nova Scotia and received a town charter in 1889.

Economy

Parrsboro had its importance early 20th century as a port and trading center of coal from the neighboring town of Spring Hill. A railway line linking both cities until the mine disaster in 1958. Nowadays, forestry, agriculture, and tourism revenue of the city.

Kerry Martens, owner of Headz Gamez International, a company produces the games wants move part of its production to Parrsboro. With the planned 1,500 employees, the company would be the largest employer in Nova Scotia.
