Party of Democratic Action

The Party of Democratic Action ( Stranka demokratske akcije, SDA ) is a Bosniak -dominated political party in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its creation was announced in March 1990. At the founding congress on 26 May 1990 in Sarajevo Alija Izetbegovic was elected chairman. According to the former program, saw the party as a representative of all Muslim citizens of Yugoslavia. Izetbegovic led the party 1990 to 2001. SDA was from 1990 until today, with the exception of 2000-2002 is always part of the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At each general election since 1990, the SDA was the strongest political force of the Bosniaks.

At the Third Party Congress of the SDA on 13 October 2001 by Sulejman Tihić was elected the new party leader of the SDA. He oriented the party long regarded as the National Party of Bosniaks towards the political center. This course is not without controversy within the party. After the defeat Tihićs in elections to the state presidency Haris Silajdžić against the Islamic- conservative wing of the party has stepped up its criticism of the course of the party. However, the SDA was in the parliamentary elections on 1 October 2006 again strongest ( after sitting ) party and was able to confirm their position in the local elections of 2008.

May 26, 2009 by Sulejman Tihić was re-elected as Chairman. The SDA provides for Bosnia and Herzegovina as a "democratic, regionalized, social and secular constitutional state with three levels of government ," the general government, regional and local. The two entities are to be replaced by five or more multi-ethnic regions, which are formed by economic, historical, and cultural principles moderate traffic.

The SDA has an observer status in the European People's Party. The SDA has under the name Asocijacija mladih SDA through a youth organization and with the Asocijacija Žena a women's organization.

Sister parties, the SDA exist in Croatia, Serbia ( Sandžak ) and Kosovo.
