Pascagoula River

The Pascagoula River is a 130 km long river in the southeast of the U.S. state of Mississippi.

The river has a catchment area of about 23,000 square kilometers and empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The Pascagoula is one of the few rivers that flow through the United States, and culminate in the Gulf of Mexico. Due to the subtropical humid climate, it offers a very specific fauna and flora home. Among other things, the rare Yellow Polka Dot hump turtle is native to him, which is considered threatened. There have therefore been several efforts in recent years to preserve the river with its specific biodiversity.

Course

The river rises in the northwestern part of the George County from the confluence of the Leaf River and Chickasawhay River and flows from there, starting mostly by marshland. In its estuary, the river forms a series of side arms. At the estuary lies the city of Pascagoula.
