Pascal Zuberbühler
Pascal Zuber Buhler ( born January 8, 1971 in Frauenfeld ), called Zubi, is a former Swiss football goalkeeper and goalkeeping coach since the summer of 2013 at Servette FC. He was up to the 2008 European Football Championship goalkeeper of the Swiss national football team and among other things, at FC Fulham under contract.
In his career, he won his club teams in six league titles, three cup victories and four times in the Champions League.
Career
Association
Between 1991 and 1999, played Zuber Buhler for Grasshopper Zurich and completed a total of 187 games for the club, where he could win three times the Swiss league and even the Swiss Cup. Following this, he moved to FC Basel, where he was able to achieve more league and cup wins. In Basel, he convinced with good performances in the league, cup and also in the Champions League, but was suspended due to some errors also fierce criticism. Between 2000 and 2001, Zuber Buhler was loaned to FC Aarau and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
He then returned to Basel, where he played until 2006 before a move to England, to West Bromwich Albion, followed. First, he showed good performance in the English under coach Bryan Robson. After 15 games, he was, however, taken by new coach Tony Mowbray from the first team, due to negative fan reaction. After the regular budget choice goalkeeper Russell Hoult was suspended, Zuber Buhler initially returned to the first team. However, by the obligation of Dean Kiely as the new number one, Zuber Buhler denied no more play in the jersey of the English and saw his opportunities in the national team with regard to the Euro 2008 as endangered.
In summer 2007, so he moved to Neuchatel Xamax, where he signed a contract for 18 months. After only one year, in August 2008, he returned to England when he signed a contract at FC Fulham. In his first two seasons he was there except for a single game in Ligacup never used and was only behind goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. After the season 2010/11 he ended his active career and was goalkeeping coach. Currently, he is the traditional club Servette FC Genève under contract.
National
Zuber Buhler made his senior team debut at the September 6, 1994 against the United Arab Emirates, but were rarely in subsequent years used.
He was from 2004 to 2007 goalkeeper of the national team and played 51 international matches. The highlight was the participation in the 2006 World Cup., Where the Switzerland stayed in all group matches without conceding a goal. After the second round also ended 0-0, Zuber Buhler was able to keep the first penalty. Nevertheless won the Ukraine, as Switzerland could turn no penalty. It was the first time that a team was eliminated without conceding a goal in a World Cup. In February 2008, announced the Swiss coach Jakob Kuhn, that Zuber Buhler only be the number two in the squad of Switzerland for Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland and Diego Benaglio would be during the tournament in the Swiss goal.
On the occasion of the third preliminary round match against Portugal on 15 June 2008 which is only acted for the Swiss national team to a farewell game, Kuhn Zuber Buhler sat still one last time. The game that Switzerland won 2-0, was his 51st and last in the jersey of the national team.
