Paschasius Radbertus

Called Paschasius Radbertus also Ratpert or Ratbert of Corbie (c. 785; † about 865) was a Frankish Benedictine monk, abbot of Corbie and author of numerous theological writings. He is a saint of the Catholic Church, his feast day is April 26.

Life

The news about his life are sparse. They are found in scattered allusions in his own works, as well as in a poem of his pupil, the bishop of Soissons angel mode. A Vita from the 12th or 13th century is of little historical value.

He was brought up as an orphan in the nunnery of Soissons. Around the year 812, he entered the monastery of Corbie. With the abbots Adalhard and Wala he was acquainted and wrote their biographies. 844 he himself became abbot of Corbie, but resigned from his post by 851 and retired to Saint- Riquier Abbey.

According to recent research ( Klaus Zechiel -gon ) could be Paschasius Radbertus one of the authors of the Pseudo- Decretals.
