Pashkov House

The Pashkov House (Russian: Дом Пашкова ) is a neo-classical building in Moscow. It is located in the historic center opposite the Borowizki Gate of the Kremlin.

History

The house was built in the years 1784-1786 as a residence by the architect Vasily Bazhenov on behalf of the officer retired Pyotr Pashkov built. 1812 was severely damaged in a fire during the war against Napoleon. Then first was a partial renovation by the then owner, before 1839, the state bought the house. This created it after extensive restoration work and rebuilding a house for general purposes. First, it served as a noble institution and later as a high school. Then it became the first public museum in Moscow. From 1925 the building parts of the Lenin Library housed (now Russian State Library ). To date, it belongs to the complex of the State Library.

To reward the significance of the house, the Russian State Bank in 1992 issued a commemorative coin worth 50 rubles. The gold coin has a fine weight of 7.78 g, the diameter is 22.6 mm. It was also in 1995 by the Russian Post a stamp from the series " Monuments " is issued with a picture of the house.
