Passenger

A passenger ( from French: passager, passajour = traveler, originally from the Latin passus = fathoms, step ), in land and inland water vessels and passenger is a person with a public or semi- public transport passenger traffic according to a transport condition and with the approval of the operator, transport company, is so carried as ship, aircraft, train or bus traveler and not even directs the transport.

Passengers pay mostly a transportation fee (also called " fare " or "Passage "), and, for example, tax ( in taxi fares ). The permission for use is different depending on traffic: ticket and especially in air travel ticket ( boarding only the boarding pass ).

In aviation, a distinction is strictly between pilots and passengers even in purely private flights: Each fellow passengers, which is not part of the crew, is "Passenger " or in accordance with ICAO code " PAX ". This in aviation jargon and also in hotels and restaurants now usual name ( in German: singular " Pax " majority " Paxe " ) is a typical for the American parlance shortening of polysyllabic word " Passenger".
